I’m back from a relaxing week in Hawaii with my family. I brought my watercolor supplies, influenced by the TikToks I mentioned last week, and didn’t paint a thing. But my kids massively enjoyed having some paint supplies to play with when they were taking a break from the sun. So, we all highly recommend packing a travel watercolor set and a sketchpad on your next vacation.
Currently obsessed with
🐢 Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles. Seeing them in the wild was incredible (at a distance as required by law since they’re a protected species).
📚 Beach reads while at the beach can’t be beat. I loved Same Time Next Summer* by Annabel Monaghan especially. I asked for more beach reads on Threads (follow me there!).
🧵Adult craft kits. Fact: I used to be so craft obsessed that I had a blog where I tried a new craft every week for a year. But it’s been a while since I crafted something so I just bought this craft kit . I’m excited to try it! Let me know what crafts you love.
Writing Tip of the Week
Publishing one book is amazing but what if you could sell a whole series? My Wish Library series has five books (at least it will have come September 7) so I know a thing or two about pitching and writing a series.
It all starts with your idea. It must be something that can sustain a series, is super kid-appealing, and allows you to craft some memorable characters. Read more here: How To Turn an Idea Into a Chapter Book Series - Writer's Digest
Writing Prompt
It has to be ocean-themed this week of course.
Write a journal entry from the perspective of an underwater creature (real or mythical).

I’m taking bookings for in-person and virtual school visits for 2023/24. Download the details here or email me for more information.
Until next week, happy writing and reading. Let me know what you’re enjoying this week.
