I’m writing a novel. I love picture books but I’ve dreamed of typing THE END on a novel for years so I’m finally doing it. It’s fun learning something new and stretching my creative brain. What have you done lately to stretch your creative muscles? Leave me a comment to let me know.
Currently obsessed with
💻 Jessica Brody’s Writing Mastery community. I joined for the Fast Drafting course and now I’m working through Save the Cat Writes a Novel. (I’m excited for Jessica’s newest book: Save the Cat Writes a YA Novel*).
🎨 TikTok keeps showing me beautiful watercolor painting videos and now I want to create pretty flowers with just a few simple strokes. I’m sure it’s just as easy as they say it is. Either way, the videos are soothing to watch.
Writing Tip of the Week
Find your community. My fabulous critique partners are everything. I wouldn’t be published without them or without the broader writing community that I’m a part of. You can find your community by joining organizations like SCBWI and attending local or virtual events. If you write picture books, I love 12x12. You can also join free Facebook groups like Kidlit411.
Plus, be an active member of your local bookish community. Attend book launches, buy books from your local independent bookstores, and support fellow creators on social media.
Writing Prompt
Use these words in a story: blanket, water balloon, Tuesday, hamster, window.
Until next week, happy writing and reading. Let me know what you’re enjoying this week.

I worked on a quick, messy illustration that took me under an hour. I'm notoriously slow and a bit of a perfectionist (though I never think of my work as perfect in the end no matter how long I take) so to create something 'finished' in such a short amount of time was freeing – and fun!
