What’s on my mind this week…
🌴 12 years of California! This week we celebrated a dozen years of life in the US. Sorry to everyone in the UK who we told we’d only be gone for 3 years. Our Christmas tree has three California ornaments on it. I think this one is my favorite.
🎥 It’s holiday movie season! I love The Holiday and the show Dash & Lily. What are you watching?
🎶 Taylor Swift being TIME person of the year. I’m still sad I didn’t get tickets to the Eras Tour but I loved this article and this quote in particular:
“…My response to anything that happens, good or bad, is to keep making things. Keep making art.”
📖 I’m reading Ink Blood Sister Scribe* by Emma Törzs. Early days but I’m enjoying it so far.
I didn’t keep a list but I think I read around 60 novels this year. How about you?
P.S. Don’t forget to sign up for Kidlit Survival Guide! This week we covered Reading Reviews.

Writing Tip of the Week
Take a notebook everywhere, especially if you’re in the season of life where you have to fit in writing in small pockets of time. Write in the school pickup line, scribble on the bleachers, doodle during nap time. All those small moments will add up.
If you want to read more about how Vicky Fang and I fit in writing, subscribe to Kidlit Survival Guide as that’s the subject of next week’s newsletter.
Until next week, happy writing and reading. Let me know what you found interesting this week.

Thanks for the FYI on World Read Aloud Day! One of the best parts of writing for children is moments like these.
