What’s on my mind this week…
✏️ As previously mentioned, I’m working on a middle grade novel. It’s a timey wimey book (shoutout to my fellow Doctor Who fans) and I found this article, 9 Rules for Writing Time Travel really useful.
☕I’ve seen several people mention this same phrase this week: Third Place. It’s a place that isn’t work and isn’t your home but another place where you feel comfortable like a community center or library or a regular coffee shop. For me I think of my third place as being more of a group of people, the writing community. Do you have a third place?
📖 I’m still reading Iron Flame* (it’s long!) What are you reading?
P.S. Don’t forget to sign up for Kidlit Survival Guide! This week we covered Writing in Multiple Categories.
News
Educators, I have early access for newsletter subscribers to sign up for World Read Aloud Day 2024!
It’s happening on February 7th and you can sign up for a free 20 minute virtual visit.

Writing Tip of the Week
I got this one from Brandon Sanderson on TikTok. Write a scene with three people using just dialogue. Don’t use any tags (he said, she said) or any other words outside of the dialogue. Can you still tell who is speaking? Are their voices distinct?
Writing Prompt
Write a newspaper article or journal entry about an event in your current manuscript.
Until next week, happy writing and reading. Let me know what you found interesting this week.
