Weekly Note: How do you live a creative life?
Plus the latest adventures of May the puppy! (it involves an expensive trip to the vet)
This past week has been mainly focused on the puppy and my mum’s arrival from the UK. She’s staying for three weeks and we’ll be busy having lots of family time. So this week’s newsletter is a little shorter than usual.
Last week I talked a little about living a creative life and I’m curious to hear from you. What do you think it means to live a creative life?
For me, it’s reading (always), writing most days or at least thinking about writing most days, jotting down ideas, taking classes or going on retreats, wandering around bookstores, thrift stores, and craft stores. I often listen to creative podcasts when I walk or drive. I’d still love to spend more time making things but my current season is very full. I need a craft I can do in small increments (much like my writing these days!). I also use my creativity in small ways through the day like when I cook or plan what to plant in the garden (after making sure it’s dog-friendly!)
p.s. If you’re reading this as an email pop over to Substack where you can leave a comment or a ❤️.
p.p.s. some of the links below are bookshop.org affiliate links so I might earn a small commission if you buy from them, but as always I encourage you to visit your local independent bookstore instead. This month I’ll be donating any affiliate earnings to Doggie Protective Services (the rescue where we adopted May).
On Kidlit Survival Guide this week Vicky shared more thoughts on writing for TV.
A few people have contacted me lately about critiques. You can find out more about what I offer on my website.
I already had this book from the library but I didn’t get chance to finish it so I picked up The Happy Writer by Melissa Meyer this week.
I rather belatedly started watching Welcome to Wrexham after listening to the director talk about it on The Screenwriting Life. It was really interesting to watch it with that interview in the back of my mind. And now I annoy my husband asking him what the theme of each episode was 😂.
And finally, here are May’s latest adventures. As I write this she’s sleeping off the antihistamine she had to have at the emergency vet after eating a bee and getting stung on her tongue. So yeah… things are busy lately!!
That’s all for this week!
With love,
Christine xo
