Obsessed this week with:
Write for Life* by Julia Cameron. I’ve tried to read The Artist’s Way before and couldn’t get into it. This book is much more accessible. I’m working through it with a group which really helps too.
The Acoustic Hits playlist on Apple Music. I can’t listen to it when I’m book-writing (I need instrumental only then) but it’s perfect for computer jobs or just driving around on errands.
I’m very late to the party judging by the number of followers she has but I just followed Nikita Gill on Instagram. Her poetry is beautiful and it’s well worth spending some time reading her feed. I want to pick up one of her books now.
Apple cinnamon oatmeal. I chop an apple into small pieces, add a splash of water and cinnamon and microwave for a minute. Then I add a packet of instant oatmeal and water and microwave for another minute. A quick and filling breakfast.
P.S. We covered Writing Early Readers on Kidlit Survival Guide this week. You can see what we have planned the next few months here.
News
This week I visited a middle school for an entire day. I spoke with 7th graders about writing narrative nonfiction. My voice was pretty hoarse after repeating my presentation seven times!
I had never even considered talking to older kids. I thought I was most comfortable with K-5 kids. But I’m so glad I said yes when I was invited even though the idea scared me. The majority of the kids were engaged, asked great questions, and took notes. I was even asked for my autograph! It was a fun experience and I’d love to visit more middle schools.
If you’re interested in having me visit your school, take a look at my website for more information.
Tip of the Week
This week I thought I’d share a peek into what I pack in my school visit bag. I’ll be writing a more in depth paid post over on Kidlit Survival Guide about school visits so subscribe if that’s something you’re interested in learning more about.
What do you pack in your school visit bag?
Happy writing,
Christine
