What’s on my mind this week…
✏️ I started a new Substack with my longtime critique partner and writing friend, Vicky Fang! Take a look at Kidlit Survival Guide and subscribe if it sounds like your kind of read! And please share it with your friends in the kidlit industry.
📚The Books for Palestine auction is running until 11/11 so hurry if there’s something you want to bid on.
📖 What are you reading? I just finished The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes* by Suzanne Collins so I’m ready to watch the movie. I’m now reading Iron Flame* by Rebecca Yarros. I’m not really enjoying this one yet but maybe I’ll get more into it soon.
News
I had a wonderful time launching The Vanishing Friend (book 5 in The Wish Library series) last weekend. I read from the book, sang campfire songs (thank you for helping, L), gave away s’more kits, and we had a friendship bracelet making station.
If you’d like to order a copy you can ask your local indie (Linden Tree books has signed copies) to order it or buy online at Bookshop*.
More about the book:
When Luca's cabinmate wishes to disappear because of bullying, Raven and Luca use their knowledge of wishes--and friendship--to bring him back.
When Raven and Luca go to sleepaway camp, they can't wait to have a week with no parents, no school, and, most of all, no trouble from magical wishes. At Redwood Rescue Farm, they'll take care of animals, meet new friends, and enjoy the awesome scenery. But when Luca's cabinmate vanishes and the camp leaders magically forget about him, Raven and Luca suspect there's more to the camp than meets the eye. Is there a Wish Library among the redwoods?
Writing Tip of the Week
If you’re struggling to get started just set a timer. Promise yourself to write for 20 minutes (or 10 or 30) and that you can stop when you hit that time. Take a break and repeat if you’d like.
Writing Prompt
Describe your perfect vacation. Where is it? Who else is there? What do you do? What do you eat? Now write it again from the point of view of one of your characters.
Until next week, happy writing and reading. Let me know what you found interesting this week.

I just have to say that these event pictures are so much fun!
My timer is my best friend. If I was getting married, the timer would be my maid of honor. I don't know how I would have even finished a single thumbnail without Pomodoro!
