What’s on my mind this week…
✏️ NaNoWriMo - I’ve never “won” NaNoWriMo but I try every year. I actually have a solid idea (I think) so we’ll see where it goes this time. Let me know if you’re doing it too and we can cheer each other on!
🎙️Publishing Rodeo is an honest look at the publishing industry from two authors who debuted with the same publisher in 2022 but have had very different experiences. Vicky Fang told me about this podcast and we’re both binging it like a Netflix show.
📖 World Read Aloud Day 2024 is coming - Authors and illustrators can sign up now to Kate Messner’s list of volunteer readers.
Educators - make sure you’re signed up to Kate Messner’s mailing list to get the details of who is volunteering this year.
🍳 Home Chef (referral link)- I’ve been really bored of cooking and everyone only eating the same two meals so I got this meal kit so we could branch out and it’s going well! Everyone is trying new food and it’s all been easy to cook too.
Top tip: my kids aren’t so into the salads and accompaniments so I just buy the two person portions and buy extra steak, chicken etc. as necessary.
🎉 And finally, congratulations Alexandra! You won a copy of The Vanishing Friend in last week’s giveaway. Check your email for a message from me!
News
Just a reminder that I’ll be at Linden Tree Books tomorrow (Saturday November 4th) at Noon for s’mores, campfire songs friendship bracelets to celebrate the launch of The Vanishing Friend.
More about the book:
When Luca's cabinmate wishes to disappear because of bullying, Raven and Luca use their knowledge of wishes--and friendship--to bring him back.
When Raven and Luca go to sleepaway camp, they can't wait to have a week with no parents, no school, and, most of all, no trouble from magical wishes. At Redwood Rescue Farm, they'll take care of animals, meet new friends, and enjoy the awesome scenery. But when Luca's cabinmate vanishes and the camp leaders magically forget about him, Raven and Luca suspect there's more to the camp than meets the eye. Is there a Wish Library among the redwoods?
Writing Tip of the Week
When writing, think about what emotion you want to leave your reader with at the end. Hopeful? Inspired? Angry?
Writing Prompt
Take a picture book idea from your notebook and try writing it in different structures e.g. how to, epistolary, cumulative.
Until next week, happy writing and reading. Let me know what you found interesting this week.

Yes, I'm NaNoing! I'm a NaNo rebel working on something that's already started but needs to be finished and hopefully by adding 50K it'll give me room to use stuff when I take things out.
