Happy Taylor Swift new album day to all those who celebrate. Any favorites from The Tortured Poets Department yet? I’m listening as I type and as always I’m fascinated by her word play and how she weaves her stories into songs.
Highlights of the Month
How has this year gone so fast? We’ve had a busy last month which included celebrating both a 50th birthday and a 12th, spring break, skiing, horse riding, swimming, rollercoaster riding, a state gymnastics competition, and loads of reading and writing. And you may have noticed that this newsletter has stopped coming out weekly. I can’t keep on top of it that regularly anymore so I’m reverting to monthly-ish with other articles sprinkled in including a new Creator Chat next week.
Right now, I’m working on the next book in The Magic Makers Club series. Book one, Getting Mixed Up, will be out next year and I will definitely be shouting about it a lot when Laura Zarrin and I have more news to share. I’m also getting our summer plans organized, booking summer camps and maybe some travel too. And I’m just about fitting some time to work out (mainly walking a few miles listening to audiobooks or podcasts).
I’m heading down to ALA in San Diego in June and I’m really excited to connect with people I’ve only seen on Zoom or online, and to walk the floor and soak up the bookish atmosphere. Let me know if you’re going too!
I don’t have any books available to preorder in the Barnes and Noble 25% off promotion (which ends today, 4/19) but here are some suggestions:
📖 Ava Lin by Vicky Fang - an adorable 1st grader’s quest for a best friend.
📖 Box of Dreams by Faith Kazmi and Christine Almeda - a girl and her mom pack a balikbayan box full of treats (and a secret wish) to send to the Philippines.
📖 My eldest loves The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and there are two books coming out later this year so I ordered those for her.
Tell me about the books you’re ordering or excited for this year!Last week on Kidlit Survival Guide Vicky talked about Unboxing Books and our latest paid post is the first in a three part series about writing chapter books.
That’s all from me this month.
Happy writing and reading,
Christine
Now I want to go on a trail ride!
